Astronomy is a subject limited only by the size of the Universe and our ability to observe and understand its contents. This course will address some of astronomy’s hot topics including; extra-solar planets, the formation of the Universe, the methods/technology used by professional astronomers, the mysteries of our Solar System and how the general public are contributing to professional astrophysics.
The course assumes no prior knowledge of astronomy and open discussion and questions are welcomed.                                       Course Fee: £32 (concessionary rates available)
Astronomy with a Computer                                                                   A one day course on Saturday 23rd March 2013, 10:00 - 16:00  Venue: Caroline Chisholm School, Wooldale Road, Wootton, Northampton.                                                                                                         Astronomy has always stood out as the only science an ‘amateur’ can contribute to in a meaningful way to push our knowledge and understanding forward. Recently the scope of public engagement in professional level astronomy has taken a great leap forward with the development of ‘citizen science’ projects covering a wide range of astronomy disciplines.
This course will guide participants through the ‘Zooniverse’ project – a selection of computer based activities – covering the science behind the projects and how to engage effectively with them to make valuable contributions to professional astronomy. You may even find a new planet!                                                                                           Course Fee: £32 (concessionary rates available)
